Sharad purnima
is an important day in Hinduism. It is also known as ‘kojagari punam’celebrated on
full moon day in the month of ashwin as per Hindu lunar calendar. Interestingly,
it is also belived to be the day on which goddess Lakshmi is said to have been
born.
It is believed
that on this day the moonlight or rays of the moon shower amrit or elixir of
life to the people on earth. Today is the auspicious day of Sharad Pornima,
when moon seems very beautiful as today moon get closest to Earth. It also mark
the end of mansoon and ushers in the season of autumn. In Sharad season the
days are hot and nights are cold.
